AcuraStem is a pre-clinical stage company focused on neurodegenerative diseases. AcuraStem is advancing novel therapeutic approaches for ALS and FTD using patient-derived stem cell models. AcuraStem has developed the iNeuroRx platform, which utilizes human iPSC-derived cells to mimic neuromuscular and neurodegenerative neuron diseases such as ALS and FTD.

The Associate Director/Principal Scientist is expected to manage and advance AcuraStem’s current platform technology, which utilizes human iPSC-derived various CNS cell types to model neurodegenerative disease to recapitulate disease phenotypes. The platform will be employed for target discovery/ validation, lead selection, and biomarker evaluation. AcuraStem seeks individuals with deep knowledge of iPSC neurodegenerative disease models, high-content imaging, and assay development. The candidate will manage external collaborations and work with internal cross-functional teams to advance early discovery research milestones. The successful candidate will be a passionate individual who is persistent and tenacious in developing novel technology and executing a plan with high-quality scientific results. The position is responsible for aligning the strategic direction of the platform team with the overall business strategy. It will leverage innovation in developing and commercializing new, high-performance, and cost-optimized assays. The Associate Director/Principal Scientist is a technical and business mentor, leader, and coach for the platform team.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deploy innovative all-human platforms to enable target validation and lead optimization.
  • Plans and executes assay development activities through the product development cycle's feasibility, development, validation, and transfer stages.
  • Applies analytical techniques, including design of experiments (DoE) and statistical process control (SPC) to diagnose assay performance issues. Conducts statistical analysis and develops solutions to improve assay performance by reducing variability and modifying assay designs.
  • Present results to internal and external audiences, including the leadership team, partnership organizations, and scientific conferences.
  • Strong commitment to mentoring staff and promoting individual growth and career development.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Ph.D. with expertise in multiple neuroscience areas. ALS, FTD, or oligonucleotide therapy experience.
  • A minimum of 4 years of industry experience is required for the Principal Scientist level/ 6+ years for the associate director level.
  • Deep knowledge in assay development using human stem cell/iPSC-derived neurons and organoids for neurodegenerative disease models.
  • Experience in drug discovery programs from early stages to IND, or experience at multiple stages and the clear readiness to lead efforts across all stages.
  • Work experience in a matrixed environment; small company and start-up experience preferred.
  • High level of motivation and proven record of accomplishment.
  • Experience performing and analyzing various molecular and cell biology experiments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic environment as a team player with a strong work ethic, excellent communication abilities, and time management skills.

Job Type

Full-time Regular On-site position. Must already be in the USA and approved to work immediately.

Salary Range

$138,000 - $195,000
